I am currently in Washington D.C. where the cherry blossoms and magnolias are in full bloom. The beauty of God’s creation is awe inspiring and so I could not resist republishing this prayer from To Garden with God together with one of the photos I took at the National Arboretum yesterday. It is also Earth Day in a couple of weeks and this is a wonderful season to remind ourselves of our responsibility to God’s good creation. Enjoy!
You can find the prayer without the photo here.

I would like to use this on May 4 when we offer a forum on “Caring for your landscapes after Sandy.” We are on the South Shore of Long Island, and along with the houses being flooded and destroyed, many of our lawns, shrubs, trees, and all our plantings have been destroyed. So much looks brown and dead. Our local garden club and Episcopal Church arepartnering to bring some green and growing life — some hope — to these areas. Others are hanging drywall and replacing wiring. We see that people need some living and green things around them as well.
May we have permission to use your prayer on that day and on the next day for Rogation Sunday?
Clare , I am glad that you enjoyed this prayer and am delighted that you plan to use it May 4th in this context. Many blessings on all you do in the aftermath of this storm. I know that the work of restoration is long and painstaking.
