I woke up this morning with lots of good intentions about what I wanted to do today. It is a busy season. Yesterday we spoke to Scott Hackman and Todd Hiestand of MyOhai about redoing our website, then we had Viv Grigg here for lunch and ended the day with a discernment session with friends. Today looks as though it will be just as busy with another lunch meeting and then more meetings in the afternoon.
As I read my morning psalms I was hit by the phrase “let all that you are rest before God”. In the midst of this busyness it is so easy for me to get distracted and unfocused. I get consumed with what I am doing and not with who I am. So I sat quietly for a few minutes and as I did so the sun came out kissing the mountains with the breath of God – a beautiful pink glow that touched my soul with the transforming presence of God. It was a beautiful moment but one that I could so easily have missed if I had not taken the time to relax in the presence of God.
As I sat I wrote this prayer to remind myself of the need for this kind of moment throughout the day.
Stop and listen, let go the rush and noise
Let all that you are wait quietly before God
Let the busyness of your body rest
Let the worries of your mind rest
Let the doubts of your heart rest
Hear God’s call to holiness
Allow the Spirit to transform and recreate
Busyness into peace
Worry into trust
Doubt into hope
Let all that is within you rest and find God
