I just came across this scary and fascinating article on the Grist website
The plan to keep food waste — more than 1.5 billion tons a month — out of landfills would have been the largest composting program in the world, with bright green composting bins at all the 31,000-plus restaurants around the world. read the entire article
Of course none of expect that the meat used in a Big Mac would be compostable but I at least thought that the buns should be able to be kept out of the landfill. Sounds a little as though we have reinvented to 1,000 year twinkie.
What do you think? Should we try to put pressure on fast food manufacturers to use ingredients that are not only nutritious but also compostable?
