This last week has had me on a roller coaster of emotion – of celebration and heartache.
We began the week with a beautiful celebration for Catie Rosario Kilmer who started home schooling this week. All of us at the Mustard Seed House are looking forward to helping her parents with her instruction in everything from gardening to mathematics.
Today we finished the week with a beautiful wedding for Aimee Buchholtz to Jeremy McAdams. Aimee has lived in the Mustard Seed House for the last seven years and as you can imagine it was a real joy to see her take this important step in her life.
Sandwiched in between however were some extremely distressing pieces of news. Many of you have probably heard that Madeline L’Engle died this week. She was 88 years old and throughout her life touched many of us with her vivid imagination and writing skills. Here is one beautiful tribute from Monty Stewart Much more tragic was the loss suffered by our friends Julio & Lisa. Their baby boy died one week before he was due to be born. As you can imagine they and their families are devastated. Why does God allow things like this to happen to people who love him deeply? To be honest I don’t really have any answers. All I can say is that I do believe that God is still in control and that in spite of my lack of understanding I still need to trust him.
It seems to me that the joys and agonies of life are often intertwined in this way – a constant reminder that life and death only make sense when we link them to the life, death and resurrection of Christ. All of life is a constant cycle of living and dying and rising again – that is part of the human condition.
