This morning Tom & Bonnie & I walked around Greenlake. It is a beautiful lake just 1/2 a mile from our home that has a path about 3 miles along. Normally we walk in the middle of the day but because we were expecting it to hit 80 today we decided to walk early. It was breathtaking and almost like a different lake. The refreshing smell of the early morning air, the sound of the birds, the long shadows along the path and the ducks waddling along the path all made me feel as though I was walking through the garden of Eden. Unconsciously I found myself entering into a time praise and worship of God that was not only inspirational but also renewing.
I have always loved walking and praying. I think that there is something about the measured pace of walking and breathing in synch that is very conducive to prayer. And i have found that prayer in this kind of situation really nourishes my soul. For me particularly worship and praise to God is a natural outflowing of a walk through part of God’s creation.
Sometimes too prayer walking can really help to calm my anxieties and restore my peace. Here is a prayerI find particularly helpful to pray when I am feeling stressed. It is one that I have adapted from an ancient Irish prayer
