Do It Anyway – A Lenten Prayer by Mother Teresa

Today I am posting two prayers for the end of the third week of Lent. This first prayer is usually accredited to Mother Teresa though it was probably written by Keith Kent. It was found written on the wall of Mother Teresa’s home for children in Calcutta. It seemed appropriate for this season of Lent:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

The second prayer is written by Mother Teresa and comes from the book No Greater Love.

“We cannot find God in noise and agitation.
Nature: trees, flowers, and grass grow in silence.
The stars, the moon, and the sun move in silence.
What is essential is not what we say
but what God tells us and what He tells others through us.
In silence He listens to us;
in silence He speaks to our souls.
In silence we are granted
the privilege of listening to His voice.

Silence of our eyes.
Silence of our ears.
Silence of our mouths.
Silence of our minds.
…in the silence of the heart
God will speak.”

Powerful! I’ll highlight this on the Christian Poets & Writers blog – http://www.christianpoetsandwriters.com. May God use these words and prayers to seed many articles, devotionals, poems, and other manuscripts yet to be written in Jesus’ Name.

What profound prayers these are. Timely, indeed. And this is my first time hearing her voice. Thanks for including the video link along with the prayers.
